Protecting people with Dravet Syndrome from Covid-19
Lead researchers: Professor Helen Cross and Professor Sanjay Sisodiya
At the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, in June 2020, we conducted research into how Covid-19 was having an impact on our community. Of the 116 children and adults who responded to our survey, seizures got worse in half of those who developed possible Covid-19. Only 5% needed hospital treatment and everyone recovered.
In February 2021, we conducted a survey to explore how Covid-19 vaccines affected people with Dravet Syndrome. Our research found that vaccines are well tolerated in people with the condition. This helped to inspire confidence in the vaccines for people affected by the condition.
